What is the length of the course of treatment?
Every treatment plan is customized for each patient.
After an Initial Assessment, your physiotherapist will be able to give you an reasonable estimate.
There are various factors that can influence the course of treatment such as:
- Patient age, physical condition and overall health
- Severity of the injury
- Are there any complications?
- First time injury or chronic problem?
- Type of structure injured (muscle, tendon, joint, ligament, etc.)
- Time between initial injury (or symptoms) and the first physiotherapy treatment
- Diligence in home exercise program
- What is the long term goal? (Return to work?, Return to sport? Etc.)
These factors, among others, can influence the length of the course of physiotherapy.
Your physiotherapist will be able to give you an estimate once he or she completes the Initial Assessment of your injury.
How long are the appointments?
The initial assessment is usually one hour long. It is composed of an interview, where your therapist will ask you questions related to your injury or problem, a physical assessment and some treatment.
Other appointments vary in duration with the type of injuries and the type of treatment received. Generally they range from 30 to 60 minutes, but they can be shorter or longer.
Note that the fees for each visit are not based on time. This allows us to give you the treatment you need and deserve and allows you to perform exercises or others at your own pace.
Do I need to have a "sports injury" to see a physiotherapist?
Not at all. We treat patients of all ages with all kinds of injuries.
We have patients as young as 3 years old and as mature as 93 years old. The cause of the injury is really not important, so whether you injured yourself playing a sport or simply doing daily chores at home we can help you get over your injury.
